A new state-of-the-art library has opened at Christ Church First School.
The school’s library has been relocated and redesigned, offering a welcoming and engaging space for pupils to explore the joy of reading.
The new library features comfortable seating areas, dedicated working spaces and thousands of pounds worth of new books for pupils to discover. Designed in collaboration with the school staff and the school council, who couldn’t wait to show their friends, the library is set to become a hub of learning and literary exploration.
“Encouraging children to read for pleasure is vital for their development,” says Louise Viner, the early years foundation stage teacher.
Head of school Kate Rhodes said, “Research shows that enjoyment in reading not only boosts academic performance but also enhances vocabulary and self-confidence, paving the way for success across the curriculum. We are excited about our new library and can’t wait to see the children engaging with it and discovering the joy of reading!
“The library was officially opened by local author Lydia Hardy, who spent time reading her book ‘The Magician of Rook Lane’ to our children. She was accompanied by Reverand Harry Wainwright form Christ Church Parish.”
The school has also announced plans to launch mobile libraries in the near future, further expanding access to books and resources for the entire school community.
A Year 4 pupil shared their excitement, saying, “I like finding books that challenge my imagination; the library will create spaces to sit around and talk about books.”
A Year 1 pupil added, “I love the comfy spaces in the library and looking at new books.”
The new library is a testament to the school’s dedication to fostering a love of reading and supporting the intellectual and personal growth of its children.
As the school community eagerly awaits the opening of the new library, they look forward to the countless opportunities it will provide for learning, exploration, and the cultivation of a lifelong love of reading.
