A familiar spot on Frome’s historic Cheap Street has been given a new lease of life, as the much-loved Choc Et Al chocolate shop reopens its doors as Café Flora.
Still under the care of owners Simon and Sheena Powell, the newly revamped cafe at 16 Cheap Street is now serving up a vibrant menu of breakfast, lunch and sweet treats – while keeping some old favourites firmly in place.
“Café Flora is all about good food and a relaxed atmosphere,” says Simon. “The menu includes everything from classic bacon sandwiches to daily specials, freshly-filled focaccia, soup of the day, quiche and handmade sausage rolls. For families, there are child-friendly options like ham and cheese toasties, while those with a sweet tooth can enjoy a tempting range of cakes – all served with a wide selection of coffees and teas.
“And for loyal fans of Choc et Al – fear not. The famous hot chocolates and indulgent ice-cream shakes are still on offer, continuing a tradition that has made the venue a local favourite.
“We wanted to create a café that reflects the location’s history and help to add to the bustling character of Cheap Street,” continues Simon. “The building has been a food and dining establishment for over 160 years, known as ‘The Albion’ beerhouse in 1859. In 1918 it became Flora Grill and Tea Rooms and later Flora Cafe, so we’re delighted to resurrect the old historic name. More recently it was The Settle. Much of the architecture of this beautiful listed building has been retained and restored and our plan is to build on the success of Choc Et Al and all the previous owners.
“A warm welcome awaits you from Sheena, myself and all of the Café Flora team. Whether you’re stopping by for a leisurely lunch or settling down with a coffee in one of Frome’s most picturesque streets, Café Flora provides a fresh twist on a beloved local café.
“Pop in and see what’s new — or what’s deliciously familiar — at Café Flora.”
