FROME Town FC welcome a new-look side this season and manager Danny Greaves remains optimistic after a pre-season campaign, and is looking forward to the season beginning next weekend.
As the season approaches, with Frome Town’s first game on Saturday 11th August, Frome Town FC said, “We are looking forward to an amazing season in the Evo-Stick South Premier League. Lots to work on, but we are very much a work in progress, but so far, so good.”
The team’s pre-season friendlies began with a match-up with Cinderford Town, away on Tuesday 10th July where the new squad came away with a 4 – 1 win, with goals from Kane Simpson, Chris Allen, Will Hailstone and TJ Davis starting positivity, despite still working out how to play as a newly-formed team.
They then took a trip to Cwmbran Town where they continued their winning pre-season streak with a 2-1 win with the help from an own goal from Cwmbran, and another goal from Will Hailstone.
Speaking of that match, manager Danny Greaves said, “It was a very tough game against a very hungry team. We struggled early on to get to grips with the pace they started with, and adjust to the 4G surface. Once we settled into the game, we showed some encouraging signs.
“A few players got their first minutes and others got more in the bank, which is what it’s all about at this stage.”
Looking to carry on their successive wins, they travelled to Weston-Super-Mare that has been noted as “one for the fans to forget and one for the management to analyse” by the team as they suffered a 7-1 loss, with the home side scoring 6 goals in the first half.
Manager Danny Greaves said, “It was a very difficult test against a very good side, who put 6 past Forest Green before us. It showed us for what we are, and that’s a very new team, with only four players from the team being regular starters last year.
“It’s not all doom and gloom, so far we have had more positives than negatives to date. But they say you learn more in defeat, and it may prove to be a blessing.”
Recent friendly against Willand Rovers on Saturday 28th July saw a win, with thanks to a tap in from Dan Demkiv following a save from the keeper, finishing 1-0.
Town take on Larkhall Athletic away from their final pre-season game on Friday 3rd August.
