A new music night is starting in Frome, playing a range of genres on vinyl including disco, jazz, soul, afro, Latin and ‘everything in between’ on Friday 10th February at 8pm to 1am.
Taking place in the Secret Basement venue underneath the French General Trading on Church Street, the event will see four DJs spinning their records.
Organisers said, “Producer, baker and DJ Ratomagoson collides Balearic sensibility with globe-trotting inspirations. His recent release, Fold, was crafted on his workhorse MPC with Juno 106 samples and live drummer sessions last year; both tunes came out of a nocturnal period after Harry transitioned from youth work in Brighton to full-time bread baking in Somerset.
“Cook, carpenter, forager and old time DJ, The Village Idiot will be spinning sordid beatnik rhythms and devilish dance floor dynamite plucked from his cherished record collection.
“Singer, choir leader and occasional DJ, Motherfunk brings the floor to the fore: the pride of the 70s and 80s in their original immaculate form.
“DJ Trickey founded the Mother of Mankind radio show at the start of lockdown to explore the sounds of Africa, one country at a time. He has so far produced more than 20 shows covering different countries in Africa and will shortly be started a new show on local station Frome FM.
“Since moving to Frome Tom has played at Marston Park, Frome Festival, hosted a Vinyl Social at the Silk Mill and started Mother of Mankind in the Secret Basement.
“For those who haven’t been to a Mother of Mankind night before, we are all about good vibes. A hand built custom soundsystem has been designed to represent the music with clarity and power so you can experience it in new ways. The space is in a magical basement in an old mill building underneath the French General Trading shop.
“It’s an inclusive space where anyone is welcome. See you on the dancefloor!”
