A WELL-KNOWN and popular local history course is set to resume this autumn in a new location.
The 10-week course, which has been run by Frome Community Education on Monday afternoons at Frome Library since 2012, will now be held at the Cheese & Grain.
The course, however, will still cover the town’s fascinating and, at times, controversial past from pre-Roman times up to the present day. It is tutored by author, historian, and regular Frome Times columnist, David Lassman.
David said, “The local history course has always proved very popular, and looks set to have maximum participants once again this year. There will also be a chance to research your own project, which can also be a springboard to other things.
“Former participants of the course have had articles and books published through their work on the course, as well as attaining prominent roles in local history organisations.”
David is the author of several books on the town, including ‘Frome at War 1939-45’ and the newly published ‘A-Z of Frome’ (co-written with Mick Davis).
For those who cannot make the daytime, the course is to be ‘repeated’ on Tuesday evenings at Avanti Park School, in Park Road. There will be also be a new local history venture by David for the F.C.E. in October. This is a Saturday morning one-off ‘Talk and Walk’ event on 17th Century Frome, which sees the first half in the classroom and the second half walking around relevant sites.
The weekly courses begin the week beginning Monday 20th September.
