NEW public toilets for Victoria Park are expected to be in place ‘this time, next year’.
The town council was tasked with providing new toilets for the park after over 1,000 Frome residents took part in a public vote on the future of the facilities. 99% of people voted to keep the toilets and 64% voted to build better facilities.
Speaking at the Annual Town Meeting, town clerk Paul Wynne said, “We’re at the planning stage and carrying out a feasibility study, looking at various possibilities for the location of the toilets.
“We are exploring if it is more feasible to have them beside the cafe or build a new building in the middle of the park, which I think is what most people wanted.
“We will bring the plans back to the public to make sure that we are delivering what people want. I expect completion will be around this time next year.”
Meanwhile, the existing toilets in Victoria Park remain closed due to vandalism. Paul said, “Every time we open them they are defaced, very dangerously. People have ripped lights out, leaving wires exposed.
“We cannot keep up with the vandals. But we are trying to find a temporary solution with more robust doors.”
