People looking to get involved in their community and make a difference are being invited to visit a new volunteering support hub at The Good Heart in Frome.
‘Get Involved Frome’ is a new pilot project from Spark Somerset, developed as part of its Volunteering for Health initiative that aims to help people find volunteering opportunities that suit their interests, skills and circumstances through the Spark a Change website.
There are currently more than 100 volunteering opportunities available in Frome, ranging from helping at community cafés, with young people and children’s groups to supporting local events, environmental projects and wellbeing services.
The project is being delivered in partnership with The Good Heart, working alongside local charities and community organisations with the aim is to make it easier for people to discover local opportunities and find a volunteering role that feels right for them.
Funding of £3,000 has been secured for the pilot thanks to the Somerset Community Foundation and it will run for the next nine months with the hope it will encourage more people to explore volunteering and the benefits it can bring, from meeting new people and building confidence to learning new skills and supporting local causes.
Get Involved Frome co-ordinator, Lyndsey Mayhew said, “Frome has an incredible voluntary sector and there are so many different ways people can get involved. Sometimes the hardest part is knowing where to start. Get Involved Frome is here to help people explore what’s available, talk through their options and find a role that works for them.”
People can drop in to Get Involved Frome every Friday from 10am to 1pm at The Good Heart, 7 Palmer Street, Frome. No appointment is needed and everyone is welcome.
