THE Pod Charity has launched a new creative workspace for adults with additional needs aged 18+. The workshop is running from the Remakery in the Welshmill Hub and is open on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm, places are limited and can be booked on a week-by-week basis.
The Remakery is equipped with all the equipment and tools needed to enable making and creating with wood, metal, clay, printing etc. A supportive team will provide a ratio of 1-4, anyone in need of 1-1 support can bring their own personal assistant to access the session.
The project developed as a result of Pod Plus members visiting the Remakery prior to the pandemic, and the group later went on to produce and sell handmade soap at the Artisan market in 2019. However, soon after the pandemic hit, and the project was sadly put on hold. The workshop, which launched on the 16th October, has been well supported, with members sharing their ideas for future sessions and already designing quality gift tags, wrapping paper and cards.
Cassie, workshop project leader said, “It is hoped the members will produce things for sale through online platforms and local artisan markets in the future, but for now, the focus is on trying out new things, building skills, growing in confidence, and having fun! I am really looking forward to working with the members and seeing how the project evolves.”
