LOCAL charity, The Pod, which works with young carers, families and children and adults with additional needs is delighted to welcome Becky Bird to their team.
Becky is taking up a new and exciting post of co-charity manager and will be working alongside the founder and current manager Sue Paxton.
The charity explains, “Becky has lived and worked in Frome throughout her life, although she has spent some time in India and Romania working for children’s charities. Closer to home Becky worked in a mainstream primary school, supporting children with additional needs.
“Becky has a core understanding of the needs of vulnerable people and understands the importance of ‘charity’ in their day-to-day lives. This interest led to her training as a social worker. Becky is also a trained hospital play specialist that has supported children with disabilities in a respite care provision.
“Through her work with Frome Town Rotary, Becky has hands on volunteer experience at a community level with many local charities and groups; she is passionate about trying to improve young people’s lives and outcomes for life through creating opportunities. But also supporting families and young carers through access to Pod groups and community support.
“After what has been a difficult two years, it is hoped 2022 will see many new partnerships for the charity; everyone at the Pod is thrilled to have Becky on board to support this growth.”
Becky said, “I am really looking forward to working with Sue to support Pod members to enjoy social activities, experiences and friendship. But also, to help develop the charity by starting new projects.
“The recent Pop Up Scrapstore events are just the start of another exciting project we hope to launch over the next year. Our members loved being part of this event and engaging with the public to sell scrap for art and crafts and the scrapstore has been very well received by members of the community.”
