November at the Cheese & Grain will see two local artists sharing the Artist of the Month title; Rosie Hart and Amy Yates.
There will be a meet the artists session on Thursday 6th November, 7.00pm-8.00pm at the Cheese & Grain.
The exhibition of their brilliant work will run from the 1st – 30th November in the foyer/cafe/bar and mezzanine of the Cheese & Grain.
Amy has lived in Frome with her two children for the last 10 years. As a single parent, she spends most of her time managing housework, childcare and finances, but always has a sketchbook on the go!
She started painting in 2008, for a bit of therapy, but soon became popular in the Frome area, for her vibrant images of Frome and her paintings used as Christmas cards for the Positive Action on Cancer, Frome based charity.
Previously, she worked for 10 years at the R.U.H. in Bath, as a medical illustrator/photographer, until financial cutbacks in 2006 when the post was made redundant. From 1994-96 she attended Herefordshire College of Art and Design where she gained an HND in Illustration.
Amy is available for commissions, and community projects.
Rosie Hart is an avid follower of alternative music and culture, Rosie’s work frequently touches upon influences of gothic subculture, heavy metal and science fiction. This sway towards the unusual is represented within her work choosing subject matter that sometimes makes one feel uncomfortable or simply confronted.
Rosie feels that art is the act of finding beauty where others may not see it. She is most comfortable with being categorized as ‘alternative’ meaning, she says, “Of, or relating to activities that depart from or challenge traditional norms.”
Her painting style is bold and contemporary using a minimal yet striking palette. Her subjects often sit at the forefront of the canvas in order to address the viewer directly.
Having completed her BA in Fine Art, Rosie continued her studies with an MA in Design Innovation which led to the development of her brand ‘The Not So Miserable’. The name came from constantly being told she was too ‘cheerful’ to be a Goth.
Rosie has produced artwork for bands including logo and brand concept, gig photography, website design and hand painted banners/ backdrops and is passionate about keeping this link with music within her work.
Rosie is happy to work on commissions large and small and in a variety of mediums.
