THE Batcombe film Society showing on Friday 18th November is Queen of Glory, the debut feature from writer, director and actor Nana Mensah and is a warm, witty and compassionate film set in New York.
Sarah (Mensah) is a PhD student whose future is thrown into disarray by an unexpected death in the family and an ensuing surprise inheritance in the Bronx.
Tasked with funeral planning, Sarah must navigate both the cultural expectations of her Ghanaian-American family and the reappearance of her estranged father (played by Oberon K A Adjepong) whilst deciding what to do about her future. Written, performed and shot on a tiny budget, the film vividly evokes the energy of New York, the weight of cultural and familial expectations and the micro-aggressions faced by people of colour on a daily basis.
A winning and thoughtful story. The screening will take place at Batcombe Jubilee Hall, doors open 7pm for 7.45pm screening. For further information, please contact Ann Biddle 850307.
Please note all screenings will be subject to prevailing Covid-19 regulations.
