FROME Town Council is working on a refresh of the Old Showfield play park with Green Play Project to create a space that is loved, well used and accessible to all.
The plans incorporate some of the existing elements such as gateways and pathways, a well-loved roundabout and hanging swinger. The existing slide will also be improved and recommissioned, but a new, wider accessible slide will also be added. And there are plenty of other exciting new elements too such as a pole jungle, swings, trampolines, a sand pit with climbing structure and both monkey and hanging bars.
Following extensive engagement and a robust tender process, Green Play have been chosen as the partners for this project. Cllr Mark Dorrington said, “We talked to a lot of people before we started and we heard right off that there was definitely a need for greater accessibility and spaces for all, but also some elements were seen as really important, a shelter, swings and trampoline were things that we heard time and again, but also that the space needed to be truly accessible and most of all full of activity and fun!
“Grounds works were also important to fix some of the issues of water pooling on the site to allow for play throughout the year – and fantastically this solution is playful! And there are some elements where we’d like your opinions; where would like to see benches, and a shelter, and what type of swings would you like to see? We also want to know if there is anything that we have missed. There are choices to be made and a chance for your opinion to be heard – so please go online and have your say.”
