Members of Orchardleigh Golf Club took part in a Texas Scramble recently to raise money for Somerset & Dorset Air Ambulance in memory of a long-standing member who died in January this year.
Ted Bullock was a long-standing member of Orchardleigh Seniors and was well-loved within the club.
The first attempt at holding this competition had to be postponed because of bad weather in late May but it was rearranged for Wednesday 18th June which turned out to be a beautiful warm day.
Of the eight teams which took part, the winning three on count back were Susan Marshall, Dave Edwards and Mike Bradbury. In second place was Mike Passingham, Rachel Priddle and Phil Banks-Welch.
The club members were very generous with their donations and the event raised £126.50 for the Somerset & Dorset Air Ambulance, a charity that was very close to Ted’s heart. His widow Diana was delighted at the amount raised in Ted’s memory.
The ladies’ section took part in the two round Vincent Cup, which is played on consecutive Sundays.
The first round on 15th June was won by Sue Sweet bringing in a nett score of 72, six shots ahead of Sarah Hynds who had 78. In the second round on the following Sunday, Sue Sweet held her lead bringing in a nett 73 ahead of Sarah Hynds’s 74. Sue Sweet was the winner of this year’s Vincent Cup with a seven-shot lead. The Keysall Cup was played on Saturday 28th June and was won by Susan Marshall with 39 stableford points, followed by Sue Sweet and Sue Chalker both on 37.
In the Bristol and District Alliance league, the Orchardleigh Ladies have not been doing so well; they lost at home to Long Ashton B team 5/9, they had a thrashing at Filton playing away losing 14/0, but did manage to draw the match against Clevedon B at home 7/7. In the Somerset Interclub league, the ladies played away to Mendip Spring and lost 3/4.
