The Orchardleigh Ladies held their Captain’s Day on Saturday 29th June under blue skies and scorching sun, one of the hottest days of the year so far.
The club reports, “Over 30 ladies took part in the stableford waltz. The ladies went out in teams of three and the scores to count were ‘one, two, three’ over the 18 holes. After a two-course meal in the clubhouse, the day’s winners were presented with their prizes by Lady Captain, Marie Cusworth. 1st overall – Pat Jones, Gloria Barber and Lizzie Bryant with 69 pts; 2nd overall – Christina Francis, Nadine Stock and Anne Kirk with 66 pts; Best front nine – Loes de Kleuver, Audrey Holland and Ann James; Best back nine – Mel Sutherland, Gail Painter and Mary Lock; Nearest the pin on 7th – Sarah Hynds; Putting competition – Liz South.
“The halfway house, put on by Marie Cusworth and husband Patrick, was very welcome as were the cold flannels and water bottles they supplied us with from the balloon festooned Captain’s buggy. Jim Worsley, the Club Chairman set up and ran the putting competition, which helped raise money for the club charity.
“On Thursday 4th July the Orchardleigh ladies held their Macey Cup (for the over 70s) and the Pudney Pitcher (for the under 70s). The results of the Macey were 1st – Sue Chalker with 30 pts (ocb); 2nd – Vron Jefferies 30 pts; 3rd – Dawn Russell 30 pts. The results of the Pudney were 1st – Christine Arnold 36 pts (ocb); 2nd – Lizzie Bryant 36 pts; 3rd – Lorraine Collings 34 pts. The Keysell Cup, which was held on Saturday 6th July, brought in some high scoring with Sue Sweet winning on 40 pts, Ann James 2nd on 39 pts and Christina Francis 3rd with 37 pts.
“Other Orchardleigh achievements were Anne Regler and Sue Sweet retaining their trophy at the Somerset County Senior Ladies GA Pairs Betterball competition held at Taunton & Pickeridge, by winning with 38 pts. Sue Sweet, Marion Underhill and Lorraine Collings were runners-up (ocb) in the SCSLGA Three Ball Bowmaker held at The Mendip with 80 pts.
