THE owners of the former Butler, Tanner & Dennis site in Caxton Road, who have outline planning permission to build up to 160 homes on the site, are hopeful that plans for the development can soon move forward.
The site has remained empty since the departure of the printing company in 2014 when it went into administration. Permission was granted to site owners, London & County, in 2016 to demolish the old printworks and build new housing.
Speaking to the Frome Times, Simon Blair from London & County said, “We are in discussions to bring the development forward. We were talking to a house builder over the last 12 months, but unfortunately these talks fell apart.
“We are now in new discussions and we are confident that in the near future we can move forward with this.
“The development is still subject to a ‘reserve matters’ application, which is the more detailed plans. Also, the demolition of the site is subject to surveys, which is normal.
“So it is still early days, but hopefully we can get things moving soon.”
The current plans for the area include building up to 160 homes, including 5% affordable homes and six starter homes, a neighbourhood centre, two play areas and public open spaces.
