AN application has been made to district council planners that could see up to 450 homes built, as well as a new primary school in Frome.
The application has been submitted by agents Alder King planning consultants for the area of land to the east of Southfield Farm. The school would have space for 210 pupils, as well as the option of room for a children’s nursery.
As part of the plans other facilities are also included in the application. These include open space and play areas, drainage features and associated engineering, new walking/cycling/ recreational routes, vehicular access by means of the construction of a new road off the existing supermarket access road, as well as retained access to properties at Southfield Farm.
Alder King Planning Consultants said, “We have submitted a planning application on behalf of Hallam Land Management Ltd in relation to the 20-hectare site at Southfield Farm.
“The proposed development seeks outline planning permission for up to 450 dwellings, a new primary and pre-school, open space and play areas, new walking and cycling routes, along with new vehicular access via the existing supermarket access road.”
Nick Duckworth, director at Hallam Land said, “We are pleased to have submitted our application for this mixed use development on what has been a long standing allocated site in Mendip District Council’s Local Plan. When approved, it will deliver a range of quality housing and complementary community facilities.”
A similar scheme to this, but not connected to this application, was planned for the site in 2009 by planning agents Pegasus Planning Group.
