The Pod Charity had a team of 12 runners in this year’s Frome Running Festival, held on Sunday 17th August.
The ‘Pod Squad’ took part across all three distances – 5k, 10k and the half marathon. The team included the charity’s managers, Sue Paxton and Becky Bird, three members with additional needs, parent carers, and supporters of the charity.
“Everyone had been training hard over the past months, with some members of the squad having never run before,” said Becky. “The Pod Squad has a history of taking part in the running festival and it was great to have the support of the Frome community as they got through those miles, with cheers, jelly babies and homemade signs to spur them on.
“Team T-shirts donated by Aspire Competitions made them easy to spot on the route and for spectators to give encouragement, especially on Frome’s many hills.”
The team has raised £750 on their Total Giving page. Becky said, “The Pod appreciates all support for the work we do in the Frome community, running nine projects in Frome for people with additional needs, young carers, parent carers, and activities for families and the wider community.
“We create safe, supported social opportunities for people who often feel socially isolated or excluded.”
The Pod Squad are already looking forward to next year’s event with an even bigger team. Becky said, “If you would like to be part of this amazing team, please contact The Pod and maybe we can keep this running bug going throughout the year.”
