AVON and Somerset’s police are to carry out two weeks of high-intensity speed checks on the worst sites in the county for excess speed during the last two weeks of October and Frome is one of the chosen sites.

Ashley Reay from the Mendip Community Speedwatch team said, “Excess speeds within the Frome area carry on unabated and hundreds per week are still being recorded, with speeds at times nearly twice the speed limit and with winter approaching, then this cannot be allowed to continue. Large volumes of speed enforcement vehicles and motorcycles will be in the Frome area, not only once or twice, but for extended periods in an effort to reduce accidents and sometimes deaths.
“A fair advance warning has been given, so let us try to make the police visits a waste of time as the motorists see sense and keep to the posted speed limits.”
