“PAINT BOX’; another Frome Festival ‘ Pop – Up’ Exhibition in The Box Room, 2 Bath Street, Frome, will showcase the work of local artists, Silvana Alvarez Noque who was born in Argentina and Canadian-born, and Robert Lee – both now living and working in Frome, which will display paintings, illustrations and assemblage works in found boxes.
The exhibition will open on Saturday 6th July and runs until Sunday 14th on weekdays between 10.00am and 4.00pm and on weekends between 11.00am and 3.00pm.
Silvana Alvarez Noque studied fine art and sculpture in Mendoza and worked initially in the graphic studio of Drago Brajak Kralj where she was introduced to graphic and silkscreen printing techniques, which subsequently influenced her painting.
She has lived, worked and exhibited widely in Argentina, Brazil and the UK. The Box Room exhibition shows works by Silvana in watercolour and in ink on paper.
Robert, who studied architecture, art and design in Brighton, returned to predominantly sculptural concerns a little over 10 years ago, after a career in the UK equally divided between the teaching and practice of art and design.
Working from a small cellar studio and more recently from his studio workspace – The Box Room in Bath Street, he began a series of works primarily focussed on ‘assemblage’ almost exclusively using found objects and print within found boxes; ‘Box Art’ works predominantly provoked by text, place and traces of previous use.
He has exhibited in London, Bath and Frome, often in mixed exhibitions around the subject of ‘Lost and Found’, and has work in private collections in Argentina, Canada, the UK and Scandinavia.
This is Robert’s sixth Festival Pop-Up Exhibition; previous exhibitions having been shared with David Oakley (3), Lizzy Oakley and Catherine Phelps.”
