Pupils at Berkley First School were treated to an inspiring visit from professional basketball player Corey Samuels recently.
Corey, who most recently played with the Bristol Flyers in the British Basketball League, visited the school to give a presentation, demonstrate basketball skills and host an exercise session.
“We all had an absolutely inspiring time when Corey came to our school for the day,” said the school’s office assistant, Rachael Logan-Thomas.
“His presentation was extremely engaging and interactive for all of our pupils. The pupils showed resilience, determination, team spirit, and a good understanding of sports discipline. We were very impressed with the questions that were asked by our pupils during their time with him.”
“During the circuits, the children quickly realised that 60 seconds can feel like a really long time when you are doing a repetitive exercise, like a press-up,” she added.
The pupils shared their enthusiasm. “I loved listening to what he said about what it’s like to play basketball,” said one pupil.
Another pupil said, “I really enjoyed it when he did the workout with us on the field.”
“I enjoyed it when he showed us some tricks and talked about playing in other countries,” a third pupil added.
