Children at Oakfield Academy recently said their goodbyes to the 50 plus baby eels, known as elvers, that the children have been looking after in their classroom for the past four weeks.
The Year 5 children went on a walk to the river bank in the town centre to wave goodbye to the eels as they released them into the river.
The Year 5 tutor Mr Webb said, “During this project, the pupils have learnt about eel lifecycles, habitats and river health and have taken it in turns to change water, feed the eels, and scoop out the poop! Thanks to Bristol and Avon Rivers Trust (especially expert, Molly) for the opportunity to take part in this essential conservation project.”
