FROME Friends of Palestine will be welcoming two volunteers next week to give a talk about their work, helping to rebuild homes destroyed by war in Palestine.
Linda Perry from the group says, “Imagine what it must feel like to have your house demolished, not by some natural disaster such as hurricanes or floods which would be absolutely devastating, but by an occupying force which brings in bulldozers, often with little notice, and rips your home apart. Sadly in the last 50 years, close to 50,000 house have been destroyed in Palestine and it continues to this day.
“Frome Friends of Palestine are delighted to welcome Linda and Adrian Briggs from Lewes, in Sussex, to give a talk on the volunteer work they do in helping rebuild homes in Palestine. They have been out to Palestine several times and seen the dreadful impact that losing your home has on families, and have worked on the ground in rebuilding projects.
“They are members of the Brighton Friends of Palestine, and of several charities working to promote non-violent resistance to the occupation and working for a sustainable just peace for both Palestine and Israel. These include The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, The Amos Trust, and Adrian is also a member of Amnesty International and Medical Aid for Palestine.
“Linda and Adrian will be presenting their talk on Friday 1st June at St. Catherine’s Church Hall, Park Street, Frome, at 7.30pm. Entry by donation. All welcome. Refreshments available and there will be a stall with Zaytoun products from Palestine and books for sale. Profits will go to a charity chosen by Linda and Adrian Briggs.”
