The Frome Independent are calling upon this weekend’s visitors to show support for two local organisations who work in support of local people most in need at Christmas.
Last year, Fair Frome and Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together were able to raise more than £2,600 at The Frome Independent’s December market, but market organisers are keen to help them beat that target on Sunday December 4th, so that they can continue their vital work in the local community.
Charity collectors will be in place throughout the market, set to be this year’s busiest for The Frome Independent.
Market director, Tabitha Clayson, was thrilled at the support shown by visitors last year, but is keen to help boost fundraising even further.
Tabitha said, “As Frome residents ourselves, the market team recognise how important Fair Frome’s work is to the town, especially at a time when more local people than ever before are experiencing hardship. We are delighted to work in partnership with them again this year and would urge all visitors to the market to give generously.”
Fair Frome is a charity that delivers a number of essential services in the town, including the food bank, and works with local people from all backgrounds to promote greater equality.
Frome’s Big Christmas Get Together is a free community festive lunch held at Frome Town Football Club for anyone who would like company on Christmas Day. Both organisations work closely together all year round, but especially in December when many people in the local area struggle to make ends meet.
Wendy Miller-Williams from Fair Frome said, “The money raised at last year’s market made a very real difference to hundreds of local people, both at Christmas and throughout the year. Over 170 guests enjoyed a special Christmas Day together in good company and Fair Frome was able to donate dozens of delicious festive food parcels to those most in need around town.”
The Frome Independent takes place on Sunday 4th December from 10am – 3pm throughout Frome, and is the final market of 2016.
The market will also be packed to the rafters with talented makers, vintage experts and local food producers, all of whom are ready and waiting to help you create a wonderful Christmas.
“The Frome Independent showcases makers who are committed to their craft, and who blend thoughtful design with beautiful, ethical materials,” said one of the organisers, Claire Carroll.
“This talented bunch will have everything from hand forged kitchen knives to reclaimed timber jewellery, offering gift ideas for even the most discerning of recipients.
“Over in the Flea, the market’s vintage experts will have an array of nostalgic goodies. Visitors can browse industrial lighting, retro clothing, mid-century furniture and antique curios. Alongside the flea is the Homes & Gardens sections, with festive wreaths, home decor, gardenalia and gifts of all kinds for those who love the great outdoors and the cosy indoors.
“Festive, seasonal food can be found throughout the market, with a fantastic lineup of street food vendors offering curry, sushi, sausages, cheese toasties, mulled cider and more.
“As always, the Park & Ride service will be in place, with extra buses this month and car parks a short walk (and even shorter bus ride) away from the centre of the market. First Great Western Railway’s Sunday service will also be in operation.”
