THE Frome and district Poppy Appeal has raised a record-breaking £32,347. The previous record was set in 2018, when over £31,000 was raised.

Frome area Poppy Appeal organiser, Richard Fry, says, “I am pleased to let the town and district know that they have once again shown how generous they are to such an important event, the annual British Legion Poppy Appeal.
“After the lean year we all experienced, I can report that the total raised in Frome and district – Nunney, Mells, Buckland Dinham, Trudox Hill, has reached a staggering £32,347.80! Thank you, your generosity will help many people.
“None of this could be possible without the hard work and commitment of the many people and organisations who help, there are far too many individuals to name, but a special thank you must go to Frome Town Cricket Club ‘The showmen’ for generously providing a room to store and sort out the items; without this help it would be a very difficult task.
“They have kindly allowed us to hold a ‘thank you’ event on Sunday 9th January between 2 and 5pm, and if you were involved in the appeal, please feel free to come along.
“Special thanks also goes to KRL Trans- port on the Marston Trading Estate for providing storage throughout the year and logistics in transporting pallets between Frome and the RBL warehouse in Aylesford.
“A special thank you to Frome Army Cadets who were seen in their smart uniforms on the second Saturday of the appeal in the Westway shopping precinct. There is to be a special parade at the drill hall to present them with their total and awards.
“And thanks also to Frome Independent Market who kindly gave a space for the Poppy gazebo to be set up. It raised the profile of the appeal tremendously, as well as a good contribution to the total raised.
“After many stalwarts not being able to help this year due to the situation, many new faces have appeared and from the positive feedback, they will be back to help again next year. If you would like more information about how you could help the poppy appeal, or about Frome branch of the Royal British Legion, then please email the branch secretary: frome.secretary@rbl.community
“The next branch meeting will be a fish and chip supper, to be held Friday 17th December at Barnacle Bill’s restaurant at 7 pm. Booking is essential through the secretary please.”
