Record sales on Record Store Day

FROME’S favourite record shop recently celebrated their best sales ever on Record Store Day 2017, when customers queued from as early as 3.30am to get their hands on exclusive material.
Local musicians played outside Raves From The Graves as music lovers bustled through the door throughout the day on Saturday 22nd April. The local musicians that entertained the queues of people were The Wochynskis, Drift and Chris Difford.

  • Children’s supporters’ club to launch at Frome Town FC A Frome Town FC Supporters’ Club for children is due to launch next month, giving local children the opportunity to be a part of the club’s community from a young age. Frome Town Supporters’ Club Young Robbins is due to launch on 18th October for children aged 0 to 16 years old. On the day, children will be given the chance to walk out with the players as a mascot when Frome Town host Winchester City. “Our children are the fans of the future,” said one of the organisers, Wayne. “It’s all about getting children out in the fresh air to make friends and support their local side, instead of only watching football on the television.” The Young Robbins club will cost £5 a season per child and will include a mini pack, key ring, stickers, a chance to be a mascot at the games and walk out with the players and a birthday card signed by the squad.   • Frome Cheese Show returns with stunts, livestock and award-winning cheese The Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show returned on Saturday 13th September, bringing thousands of visitors together for a day of celebrating the very best of food, farming, and, of course, cheese. The day began with sunny weather, and the showground buzzed with energy from start to finish. Despite rain in the latter part of the afternoon, visitors, traders and competitors remained in high spirits, showing their full support for the show. At the heart of the day was the Global Cheese Awards, which once again showcased the finest cheesemaking from around the world. This year’s British and Irish Supreme Champion title was awarded to First Milk Cheese Company, Haverfordwest, for their Coloured Vintage Cheddar. Read more on our website. The link is in our Bio.
  • Sisters conquer Kilimanjaro in aid of water charity Two Frome sisters have scaled 5,895 metres of Mount Kilimanjaro in support of a charity dedicated to transforming access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene for communities in Kenya. Rachel and Jessica Brown undertook the gruelling expedition alongside a team of Edinburgh University students, where Rachel has recently graduated. The sisters took on the challenge in aid of Dig Deep, which works with communities to implement practical solutions to bring clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene to those who need them most.   • Show-stopping Frome Carnival rolls into town A spectacular Frome Carnival took over the town last week in one of its biggest processions yet. The colourful event was held on Saturday 20th September and began with the Children’s Carnival in the afternoon, which saw local children, groups, schools and dance and theatre ensembles in fancy dress parade through the roads around Victoria Park. The evening procession then brought more carnival cheer, with 54 entries, including themed floats, fancy dress and lively music, entertaining crowds which lined the street from the Marston Trading Estate to the town centre. “We felt it went really well; it was a really good community-spirited carnival,” said one of the organisers, Mandy Morgan. “Everybody on the route was clapping and left in good spirits. There is so much doom and gloom in the world; we all need a lift, and all of our entries were absolutely amazing." Read more on our website.   • Frome event serves 222 meals in pay-what-you-can community feast Residents of Frome gathered in Victoria Park for a community meal last month, organised by Canteen, a pay-what-you-can restaurant initiative. The event aimed to bring people together while promoting healthy, sustainable food. The outdoor supper served 222 plates of food, with the menu featuring locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, including a potato salad made with 600 potatoes grown by over 100 families, schools, care homes and businesses in Frome. Surplus food from the local Community Fridge was also used, and any leftovers were redistributed to prevent waste. Canteen is run by the Frome Food Network and supported by Future Shed, part of the Green & Healthy Frome project and this was Canteen taking its first step outdoors.   • The Woodlanders return with annual variety show Local entertainment group The Woodlanders are back with their annual variety show next month, promising an evening of entertainment for all. The show will run from 6th October to 11th October at the East Woodlands Village Hall. The group began in 1977 when Lydia Tudgay, choir mistress at St Katherine’s Church, proposed holding a concert to raise funds for the village hall, which needed urgent repairs. What started as a simple concert soon evolved into a music hall-style show, featuring song, dance, musical performances and comedy. Today, the show has developed into a full variety performance, with each year’s programme completely new and created by the cast.   • New timetables for bus services in Frome New bus timetables for the D2 and D2X between Bath and Frome, operated by First Bus, the X34 Faresaver service, and the 24 bus between Frome and Salisbury, came into effect on Sunday 31st August. Peter Travis and Tracey Harding of Frome and Villages Bus Users Group (FAVBUG), along with Cllr Philip Campagna, hosted a stall in the town centre on 30th August to share the new bus timetables and to launch September’s national Catch the Bus Month campaign. Peter Travis said, “The new timetable for the D2 service means that the first bus to Bath in the morning leaves 20 minutes earlier, so check all your regular journeys to avoid being caught out. If you didn’t catch us in town on 30th August, you can pick up the new bus timetables from the Discover Frome information point in the library or from the town hall.   • Make your wardrobe sustainable this September Frome will join cities and communities across the UK and internationally for Sustainable Fashion Week (SFW) 2025 from Saturday 27th September to Sunday 5th October. A full programme of events will be taking place across the town including a Make and Mend Day on Saturday 27th September, a classic clothes swap on the Saturday evening, and a Preloved and Vintage Fair on Sunday 28th.   • Frome MP welcomes Police and Crime Commissioner to Frome to discuss local safety concerns Frome MP Anna Sabine hosted Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner, Clare Moody, last month for a visit to Frome to address ongoing concerns around rural crime, women’s safety, and anti-social behaviour. The meeting marked an important step in bringing local issues directly to the Commissioner’s attention. After discussions with Anna, Clare Moody joined her on a walk down Catherine Hill, where they met with local shop owner Anthony Hick, whose store Assembly was recently the target of a break-in that left its front glass destroyed and thousands of pounds of stock stolen. Speaking after the visit, Anna said, “Frome and East Somerset sits on the edge of the Avon and Somerset area, which can sometimes leave residents of Frome, Midsomer Norton, Westfield and all the villages in between feeling a little forgotten."
