FROME Children’s Festival will be back next month, with a few additional extras to make sure those with disabilities and additional needs can have full access to the event.
Organisers, Purple Elephant, have designed this year’s event alongside local people with additional needs and disabilities.
It will take place in its entirety for the first time since 2019, due to disruptions caused by the 2020/ 21 Covid pandemic.
Sue Willis, Purple Elephant director said, “We’re very excited about this year’s festival, especially as we’re back to the pre-Covid approach, with more than 30 different activities and open access for all.
“We’re using a slightly wider site, so that people can have more space, and be more accessible for children with additional needs.”
Purple Elephant has been working with local groups, to ensure the event is designed by children, with their needs and abilities being considered – this includes the unveiling of a special sensory trail.
Family support workers will be available on the day, along with British Sign Language interpreters.
There will also be symbols accompanying text, to make information easy to read.
Sue added, “We’re going to reveal a really super list of all the activities soon with lots of new treats.
“We won’t have any merchandising, only selling some food, so it can be a truly affordable event; people can also bring along their own picnics.
“It’s a lovely way for the whole community to come together and celebrate childhood, having fun and making new friends.”
Entry to the event is free and will be held on Sunday 21st August from 10am to 4pm.
