Frome Rotary clubs have provided support for two local organisations, Purple Elephant and Nova Sports Coaching.
Purple Elephant is a small not-for-profit organization in Frome that runs projects for children and families to help develop a stronger and more cohesive community. Purple Elephant runs events in Frome including a one-day children’s festival, as well as over 40 different other activities including a family day and a Christmas party..
Frome Rotary Club recently purchased a special container to house their toys and equipment, which was erected by Frome Town Rotary Club.
Frome Rotary Club also recently funded a specialist bike to Nova Sports coaching, to support their work.
Nova Sports coaching is a not-for-profit community interests group. It was started by Jenny Rutter and Alex Johnson who met whilst studying at Bath University. They soon realized as a result of their volunteer work, that there was a huge need for specialist provision. Through the development of specially adapted bicycles, they have brought new opportunities for children and adults with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy with race running. Participants sit on a specially-adapted tricycle-like frame and use their feet instead of pedals to walk or run.
This developing sport is endorsed by physiotherapists as a unique way to exercise through enjoyable activity. It is a newly-included para-athletic sport and has only eight clubs in the whole of England. The Bath club covers the whole of Somerset and Wiltshire.
