THE Rotary Club of Frome recently manned an empty shop in the Westway Precinct, by kind permission of the management, where they sold a range of goods for five weeks, raising £4,700 for local good causes.
Rotarians and ladies from Inner Wheel served in the shop throughout the five weeks, selling books, clothing, furniture and bric-a-brac. Rotary wish to thank the ever generous Frome shoppers for raising the sum of £4,700 for local good causes.
The Rotary Club have already donated £1,000 to the Wessex Counselling Service in Frome for their most recent project ‘Changing Course.’
The aim of the project is to reach out to the most troubled children and young people in the area by providing specialist counsellors offering free counselling in different venues, where children and young people can feel more at ease attending. It will also provide free counselling skills and workshops for volunteers working with young people.
Rotarian Humphrey Barnes said, “The Rotary Club of Frome would also like to thank the generosity of the people of Frome and district for raising close to £5,000 at the recent Frome Carnival. The weather was kind to us this year, with some wonderful entries in both the afternoon procession and evening, which helped swell the crowds.
“The Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who walked and collected in the carnival, and also those volunteers from Rotary and the carnival committee on the Sunday morning count – a wonderful successful weekend for our town.”
