A MEMBER of Frome Rotary Club has been named president of a national mutual society.
Glyn Carpenter of East Woodlands, Frome was elected as president of Foresters Friendly Society earlier this month.
Glyn said, “I am deeply honoured to be elected as the Society’s President. We have branches all over Great Britain, from Guernsey to Edinburgh and I look forward to visiting many in the coming year.”
Glyn, a former chairman of the Foresters’ Board, is a member of Frome Rotary and part of the Woodlanders Music Hall.
At the Telford conference Glyn announced that Canine Partners is the chosen charity for the Society’s annual President’s Appeal. Each year members of the Society raise money through the Foresters branch network, which organises fundraising events and other initiatives to support the annual appeal, giving over £450,000 in the past 6 years.
He said, “Canine Partners is a wonderful young charity that does a lot of great work to help those with disabilities. Their assistance dogs help their partners with day to day tasks that would otherwise be extremely difficult, and give companionship and confidence, too. We have a great programme of fundraising events planned for the year ahead.”
