Exciting work is under way to transform the Roundhouse Garden at The Other Side.
This is a small pocket park running beside the river, right in the centre of Frome between Henley Way and the Welshmill Allotments: On the other side of the river to Welshmill Park.
In the first stage of the transformation there will be aromatic flowering shrubs, climbers, and raised beds filled with native woodland, wild flowers and herbs to improve the view along the path by the riverbank.
The railway fence will be covered with climbing plants and alternating art boards which will be available to local artists and art students. There will be a wonderful assortment of wildlife planting including a wild flower meadow, and bee sanctuary filled with pollinator friendly plants and other herbs and although the site does have some contaminated soil, eight raised beds will be created with clean soil and made available for the use of various local groups to grow useful plants.
The groups co-ordinating the community garden; Frome Town Council, FROGS, Apothecary Garden and Incredible Edible Frome would very much like to welcome the people of Frome to get involved in creating and using this fantastic resource.
The garden provides opportunities for art, play, relaxation, community gatherings, learning, exercise; improving health and well-being.
Groups and individuals are welcome to join regular volunteer sessions on Saturdays 2-4pm, to help transform and maintain the garden. Or an alternative time and facilitation could be arranged for groups preferring a more personal approach.
Groups are also invited to become supported stewards of a particular area in the garden, providing an exciting opportunity for education and community involvement.
Apothecary Garden and Incredible Edible will be holding, encouraging and supporting workshops and short courses focussing on wildlife, growing, medicinal plants, art, therapies and more.
