Rehearsals are in full swing for Peter Pan, this year’s Christmas musical show brought to you by the award-winning Merlin Theatre Productions.
The show runs for a week from this Saturday, 3rd December, and tickets are on sale now from the Merlin Theatre.
Merlin artistic director Claudia Pepler said, “As well as the traditional elements including pirates, fairies, mermaids and Lost Boys, director James Moore will be adding a few surprises to the timeless classic. The Merlin shows are always a visual delight and this year’s production will be no exception. The set, costume and props are designed by Rebecca Long who has won awards for many of her sets including last year’s The Little Mermaid.
“This year the Merlin is offering a special ticketing deal in keeping with JM Barrie’s original wish of helping children (all performance rights still go to Great Ormond Street Hospital). For every full price ticket (£8.50) that is booked for the 6th, 7th or 8th performances, the Merlin will donate a subsidised ticket to children and their families who would not ordinarily be able to afford to go and watch a live theatre performance.
“Many of us are aware of the origins of this beautiful family favourite and how the back-story of the ‘boy who refused to grow up’ is shrouded in magic and sadness. Peter, George, John, Michael and Nicholas Llewelyn-Davies were adopted by author JM Barrie after the boys lost their father in 1907 and then their mother in 1910.
“These ‘lost boys’ were left in the charge of their guardian – JM ‘Jimmy’ Barrie, and from these tragic beginnings some magic was born.”
The show starts on Saturday 3rd December at 2pm and runs until Saturday 10th, including matinees and a schools performance on Friday 9th at 11am. Tickets can be booked at www.merlintheatre.co.uk or on 01373 465949. Group discounts are available.
