THE Frome Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) recently held an afternoon tea party to say thank you to the Poppy Appeal helpers who, last year, managed to raise over £32,000 for the charity for the second year in a row.
The tea party was hosted by Frome Town Cricket Club, with refreshments generously provided by Catleys Food warehouse.
A Frome RBL branch spokesperson said, “During the party, the mayor cllr Sara Butler presented long service awards to volunteers, as well as certificates of thanks to Sainsbury’s and Asda for the help and support they always give to the Poppy Appeal. The branch chairman, Richard Aspray ,presented a certificate and wall plaque to the cricket club in recognition of the help they have given over many years.
“The next award of the afternoon was presented by the president of the Frome branch of the Royal Naval Association, Mrs Mo Wood; it is a silver trophy awarded to the person or persons deemed to have made an outstanding contribution during the Poppy Appeal fortnight. This year the award went to the Royal Navy CCF based at Frome College.
“The final award was presented to Richard and Julie Fry, in recognition of their time and hard work as the district Poppy Appeal organiser and members of the Poppy Appeal team.”
Poppy Appeal organiser needed
A Poppy Appeal organiser heads up the Poppy Appeal team, and someone is now needed for this very important leadership, planning and organisational task here in Frome. It is not too onerous and there is a great team of helpers to share the load.
