A TEAM of runners raised over £5,000 for charity when they ran in the Bath Half Marathon earlier in March.
A team of 14 ran the Vitality Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 12th March in support of Somerset Sight. They all finished, and the fastest was Jon Fellingham at 1 hour 32 minutes.
Four of the runners were visually impaired, one of whom is totally blind and ran with a guide.
They have already raised over £5,100 and are still collecting sponsorship.
Visually impaired runner Heidi Linegar said, “Running the Bath Half was a real challenge; I was inspired to raise money for such a great cause that has changed mine and so many other people’s lives for the better.
“I wanted to show everyone that no matter what barriers you face in life you can achieve anything if you set your mind to it.”
Holly Sutton, Somerset Sight’s development officer said, “Running a half marathon is a huge achievement. I’d like to congratulate all the runners on a great race, im so proud of all of them. Without the generosity of our supporters we simply would not be able to continue providing our vital services.”
Somerset Sight is a charity supporting over 3,000 people and their families who are blind or visually impaired. The charity will be entering a team in the Frome Half Marathon in July. To get involved contact Holly on holly.sutton@somersetsight.org.uk or 01823 366147.
