A treat is in store for lovers of ballet of all ages when the Merlin Theatre screens the Bolshoi Ballet’s production of ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ this Sunday, 22nd January at 3pm.
This filmed theatre screening from the Bolshoi’s home in Moscow features the music of Tchaikovsky, the choreography of Yuri Grigorovich, with a libretto by Ivan Vsevolozhsky and Marius Petipa, based on the stories of Charles Perrault.
On her 16th birthday, a curse by the evil Carabosse causes the beautiful Princess Aurora to fall into a deep slumber for 100 years. Only the kiss of a prince could awaken her.
The Bolshoi’s sumptuous staging with its luxurious sets and costumes gives life to Perrault’s fairy tale unlike any other.
