Frome got back to winnings ways with a dramatic final over victory away to Staplegrove, which sees them climb back up to second in the table.
Frome were looking to bounce back from a difficult away outing at Wembon the previous week and, having selected the same side, Frome were looking for a response from their youthful side.
Once again winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the away side got off to a solid start with in-form Paul Sanger and Dan Dredge batting well up top, but their hard work was undone when Dredge (12) miscued one to mid-off with the score at 39.
For the second week running the Frome middle order got starts and then found ways to get themselves out, which again put pressure on opener Sanger.
When he was finally dismissed for another classy looking 81. The visitors were on 166 for the loss of five wickets and the innings firmly in the balance as Smart (47) was the last recognised batsman. Himself and Matt Knight (19) took the attack to the Staplegrove bowlers putting on a quick fire 49 for the seventh wicket partnership.
Frome took good momentum into the second innings by finishing on a competitive 234 when Mark Sanger was the last man to go, bowled by Parkman (3-44).
The home side looked to make use of the early power play overs as Frome looked to take early wickets and it was youngster Matt Knight who was winning the battle taking the wickets of bother openers including the dangerous Sizer, L.B.W for just 14 as they fell to 30 for the two wickets.
Staplegrove looked to build a platform for their big hitting lower order. Hayes (62) and Dimond (31) batted well, giving away few chances and moved the score into 115 before the extremely impressive Knight (3-20) came back for a second spell and had Hayes caught behind.
With the platform set, it ways always going to end up a tight contest which could go either way and, with Hamblin (3-58) taking the wicket of captain Bishop (10), it looked to have swung Frome’s way but this wasn’t to be the case.
The big hitters kept coming and kept clearing the ropes. Frome managed to chip away and eventually got the home side nine down, still requiring 21 from the final two overs but number 11 Cleverly wasn’t finished. A few lusty blows took it to the last over with Staplegrove only requiring a run a ball in the last over.
David Dredge was the man to bowl the last over and it came down to 5 to win off 5 balls, then the match-winning moment –, Riley (0) hit it straight to Paul Sanger at cover and ran, Sanger kept his head and Dredge completed the run out and gave the showmen a massive victory away from home to get them back on track.
