A SCHOOL librarian in Frome has begun donating books to a scheme that educates girls in disadvantaged African communities.
Oakfield Academy’s librarian, Chris Perrett, donates unused library books to education charity Create Change.
Create Change co-ordinator Emma Parker says, “Create Change is a charity that helps girls from rural communities in Northern Ghana access quality education. In addition to a sponsorship programme (so far we have sponsored over 1,200 girls), the charity also works with disadvantaged rural schools, providing infrastructure and practical support through the delivery of after-school reading clubs.
“Some sponsored girls can also intern at Create Change and the aim of the charity is for it to one day be run entirely by girls who are themselves former beneficiaries. Create Change also works to support women to set up local enterprises.”
