Selwood Academy is once again celebrating ‘record-breaking’ SATs results, further building on the school’s success in recent years.
Last year, the school was ranked as the highest-performing middle school in the county and among the top two in the South West. This year, the school has reported that results have exceeded last year’s standards across reading, writing and maths.
Headteacher Dan Jeffries said, “All headline areas were above the national average. However, in maths a record 88% of pupils achieved the expected standard, up 6% on last year’s highest results ever, and substantially above the national average.
“Maths also saw record-breaking results for those working at greater depth standard. Writing results were exceptional and the highest in the school’s history, with 86% of pupils achieving the expected standard. Once again, this is well above the national average. Another notable performance was that nearly a third of pupils in both writing and reading achieved greater depth standard, once again exceeding national averages. Furthermore, a whopping 92% of pupils achieved the expected standard in science, once again dramatically above the national average.
“There were a number of individuals who overcame challenges and performed notably well.
This included Emma B, Sidney M, Ellis H, Arlen B, Joshua A, Minnie M, Elena T, Lilia M, Sophie F, Jasper T, Laura M, Florence C and Lexi B, all of whom achieved the combined greater depth standard across the key areas.
“These results are a testament to the incredible efforts of our staff, pupils and the entire community. They have truly let their light shine, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.
“We know that the care, support and nurture that we have given our pupils has really prepared them to face these assessments. These results wrap up another incredible year at the academy; from the incredible trips the children have undertaken, our sell-out production of the Wizard of Oz at the Merlin, our block buster summer concert, as well as our incredibly popular taster days which saw over 275 Year 3 pupils experience a day at Selwood.
“I am so proud of the children and the whole community. I am full of hope and excitement as I know next year will provide even more opportunities for our pupils to flourish and our community to prosper.”
