Frome’s final league game of the season ended with a 2-0 defeat away to promotion hopefuls Kings Langley.
In reality Kings Langley’s hopes of a play off place were slim with bottom club Staines needing to beat Poole Town and there was really little in the game.
Kings Langley started the brighter and were awarded a soft penalty in the 6th minute that was duly converted. As the half wore on Frome came more into the game with Mannings and Davis both looking lively but there was little in the way of goalscoring opportunities for either side and it ended 1-0 at half time.
Frome started the second half brightly and were looking the better side without, as has been the case so often, being able to find the goal they needed. Kings Langley almost doubled their lead on the hour mark when a quickly taken free kick as the defence organised themselves was smartly saved by Brown at the far post.
There were a couple of half chances for both sides before a low cross for the hosts was tapped home in the 85th minute to finish the game, and the season, 2-0. Frome’s man of the match was the tenacious Dan Whitley who has earned himself a regular starting position this season.
Frome will now look to rebuild over the summer with a view to returning to the Southern Premier League at the earliest opportunity and the manager, staff and players will loom forward to a short summer break before returning to training in June.
