Selwood Academy is celebrating ‘record-breaking’ SATs results, reporting that they are building on their successes in recent years.
This year has seen a record number of pupils achieve the expected standard across reading, writing and maths, placing them as the highest performing 5 to 8 middle school in the county and one of the highest in the South West.
Headteacher at the school Dan Jeffries said, “In maths a record 82% of pupils achieved the expected standard, up 5% on last year’s highest results ever and above the national average. Maths also saw record-breaking results for those working at greater depth standards.
“Writing results were exceptional and the highest in the school’s history with 86% of pupils achieving the expected standard, once again this is well above the national average. Another notable performance was that nearly a third of pupils in both writing and reading achieved a greater depth standard, once again exceeding national averages. A whopping 93% of pupils achieved the expected standard in science, once again the highest in the school’s history and dramatically above the national average.”
“There were a number of huge individual results, with pupils overcoming challenges and performing notably well. This included William D, Maxmillian F-J, Seb H, Eva H, Alexa J, Zak J, Arun K, Rosalie M, Xane P-R, Tommy S, Errol S and Noah W all of whom achieved the combined greater depth standard across the key areas.
“These results are a testament to the incredible efforts of our staff, pupils and the entire community, they have truly let their light shine and I couldn’t be more proud of them. We know our pupils put everything they had into these assessments and therefore deserve to be full of pride.
“We had so many exceptional performances and there are many individual stories in these results of pupils who overcame personal challenge! We know that the care, support and nurture that we have given our pupils has really prepared them to face this challenge.”
