Residents are invited to share their ideas for Frome’s new skatepark at the Saturday market on 6th December.
The Frome Skatepark Project team will be at the market to chat with residents about what is happening behind the scenes and to gather ideas from the public to help shape the new park.
The new skatepark is expected to cost up to £40,000 and will replace the existing skatepark, which is said to be ‘nearing the end of its life,’ with chipped ramps, surface wear and sharp edges.
Frome Town Council is working with the volunteer-led Skatepark Project team to develop the new facility, which will be relocated closer to the children’s play park in the Mary Baily Playing Field, with safety features to separate the two areas and a commitment to make the facility as accessible as possible.
A member of the project, Sue Bucklow, said, “We’re excited that Frome Town Council is supporting the new build and we now have a fundraising team in place. We’ve already discussed lots of great events for next year to help raise further support and money.”
To boost funds, the team will be selling various merchandise, including t-shirts, sweatshirts and mugs, at the market on Saturday 6th December.
Sue added, “We hope people come and spend some money as well as chat. We’ve got a lot to raise to create a new and inclusive skatepark fit for generations to come.
“We’ve been campaigning for years and we’re so happy to be on the path to having it realised.”
The group has also set up a Crowdfunder page for people to donate online. To donate, visit https://shorturl.at/xsWsg
