YMCA Mendip have been shortlisted in the national M&S Community Energy Fund competition and are now in the running for a share of £300,000 towards their renewable energy project at Frome Youth & Community Centre on Vallis Road.
M&S Energy will be awarding regional funding for projects across Great Britain that require a maximum of £12,000 and a prize for the most innovative and inspiring projects are open to the public vote.
YMCA Mendip have recently taken on a 99-year lease of the venue and are currently raising funds to renovate the centre and develop it into a community hub for people of all ages in Frome. Long-term plans include the installation of a silver gym and community café within the building.
Youth & community development manager, Mark Willcox said, “Frome Youth & Community Centre is a vital asset for local people. We want to develop and transform the centre into an accessible, affordable, vibrant community hub for people of all ages in Frome to come together, and take part in affordable sporting, creative and social activities.”
