The deputy manager at Gracewell of Frome, Liliana Santos Sobreira, raised over £450 for local cancer charity We Hear You (WHY), in a skydive at Old Sarum airfield recently.
Liliana was joined by Darren Bishop, a family member of Gracewell of Frome’s home admissions adviser, Debbie Goodsell. Debbie was on hand, alongside home manager Emma Murphy, to provide the pair with moral support for the big jump. Together, Liliana and Darren were able to bring the fundraising grand total up to nearly £1,000.
Despite being kept in suspense as they waited for their turn, scheduled as the last one of the day, the sunshine and blue skies made for perfect jumping conditions. When their turn came, they showed exceptional courage, jumping a 10,000 feet drop at a freefall speed of 120 miles per hour. Upon the opening of their parachutes, Liliana and Darren were rewarded with stunning views of the local scenery.
After touching back down, the pair expressed how much they had enjoyed their experience. Liliana in particular, who had been so excited for the jump, loved it even more than she had anticipated and asked if she could have another go almost as soon as her feet had touched the ground.
Liliana said, “I am delighted by the amount of money Darren and I have raised for this exceptional local charity. It’s a wonderful experience, made all the more better by raising money for such a great cause.
“I want to thank all of the staff and residents at Gracewell of Frome who have provided me with so much support, and of course to everyone who has so generously donated!”
WHY – the charity which Liliana and Darren have raised the money for – provides essential emotional support to the patients, family, friends and carers of those who have been touched by cancer or other life-threatening conditions. Gracewell of Frome’s support for the Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire-based charity reflects the care home’s strong commitment to providing personalised, compassionate care for their residents.
