Members of a Slimming World group in Frome recently raised £307 for Macmillan Cancer Care at a coffee morning held at Wesley Church Hall.
The event featured cakes made using Slimming World recipes and was organised by consultant Ffiona Brace and her group at Wesley Hall.
“Group members Lynne Cornish and Lesley Keegan took the lead in organising and coordinating the day’s activities,” said Ffiona. “They showcased a delectable array of cakes – including chocolate cake and raspberry and coconut sponge – and showed that charity and indulgence can go hand in hand with weight loss.”
The fundraiser included a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, including a meal for two at The Joliffe Arms in Kilmersdon, a takeaway meal from Cinnamon in Westbury, and a slow cooker to encourage healthy cooking.
The funds raised at the coffee morning are part of the group’s larger goal of collecting £500 for Macmillan Cancer Care. Weekly raffles held during their Wednesday sessions are helping them edge closer to their target.
“Our group not only raises crucial funds for Macmillan Cancer Care – a lifeline for many affected by cancer – but also fosters camaraderie among members, proving that slimming journeys are about much more than weight loss; they’re about lifting each other up,” added Ffiona.
Ffiona’s Slimming World group meets every Wednesday at Wesley Church Hall at 9.30 am, and starting on January 8, an additional session will be held at 7.30am.
