If you have yet to decide on what to treat your loved ones with this Christmas, do consider one of Frome Community Education’s courses.
There are over 60 adult learning courses on offer, spanning arts & crafts, words & literature, culture, health & wellbeing and languages. You can choose from a one-day workshop or a five or a 10-week course with prices starting from just £35.
Among the many new courses on offer for the Spring term, there are a wide selection of brand-new arts & crafts classes. New tutor, Catharine Plummer, will introduce “Creating Colour From Plants, An Introduction to Natural Dyeing” which aims to teach the complete beginner (as well as those with some experience) how to dye fabric and create pigments using plant dyes.
In addition to his teaching Life Drawing, Paul Crummay now also offers you the chance to “Learn Charcoal Drawing” working from landscapes, still life and life drawing in this versatile and beautifully messy medium!
Paul Chapman makes a welcome return with a new art-history course “The Art of Revolution” investigating how David, Delacroix, Lutze and Rodchenko (amongst others) depicted revolution and how their images continue to resonate and influence.
There is also the opportunity to “Let Your New Year’s Creativity Bloom With Collage” and create your very own unique work of art with Jessica Wilker, or, why not “Be Inspired by Nature and Paint” and explore painting in different media, on different types of paper and silk with Jeanette Magson? Student, Claire Vowell wholeheartedly recommends Jeanette’s classes: “A little gift of me time and mindful craft with like-minded people. Loved it!”
Local willow weaver Mary Cross returns with “Weaving Plant Supports and Bird Feeders” and traditional upholstery tutor, Angela Lamb, has introduced an additional day of upholstery tuition on Wednesdays (as well as her existing Friday classes).
Programme Manager Pia McGee says “We are really pleased to be able to offer such an interesting and varied range of new Arts & Crafts courses in addition to our existing programme. But, if you see something you like, don’t delay! Courses are available to book now and frequently sell out – especially in the run up to Christmas.
“The directors of Frome Community Education would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our students, and our tutors, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy (and suitably educational) New Year!
