OPEN Mental Health Somerset is starting another round of free Music for Mental Wellbeing workshops, run by Mind Your Music.
The workshops started in 2022 and take place twice a month on a Friday at Trinity Hall in Trinity Street (BA11 3DE). The next round starts on 5th January.
Bo Bowman-Shaw from Open Mental Health Somerset, said, “I started these workshops in 2022 having been asked if there were any creative workshops in or near Frome for people struggling with their mental health, as so many people are post-pandemic.
“I couldn’t find any so applied for a grant, contacted Mind Your Music and we have just had our first Christmas show after a very successful second course of music workshops and are looking forward to this year’s workshops.
“Our participants go on a wonderful journey, gaining in confidence and often finding that their anxieties are lessened.
“The workshops involve group drumming and eventually singing but there is no pressure to do anything you don’t want to; we understand that people have good and bad days. If at any time someone feels overwhelmed, they can sit in the room next door, or even leave, we all understand.
“We have a taxi from the centre of town to and from the workshop or there is a large car park at Trinity Hall as well. Participants can bring a support worker, family member or friend as support.”
Due to additional funding from Open Mental Health, there are ten more spaces on the course; if you would like to attend, email Bow on bo.bs.openmentalhealth@gmail.com
