THE local Speed Watch team has said that since January last year, 100 motorists have been prosecuted for speeding along Bath Street.
This follows a resident’s concern that drivers ‘fail to respect the speed limit of 20mph and accelerate down Bath Street.’ The resident also said the local authorities are ‘not doing anything’ to enforce speed limits.
Mendip Community Speed Watch coordinator, Ashley Reay said, “Due to public concerns, the police speed enforcement unit has added Bath Street to the list of sites where vehicle speeds are checked.
“The checks commenced early in January last year and to date, despite the attention of a regular Community Speed Watch team, over 100 motorists have been prosecuted for excess speeds on this street.”
Ashley also said that it is ‘disappointing and alarming’ that motorists continue to speed despite the clear signage that the road is 20mph.
“The choice for those using this busy and well-used street in the centre of town, as it is in other areas of Frome, is to either slow down or face the consequences of a fine, penalty points, or, in the worst-case scenario possible disqualification,” explained Ashley.
Earlier this year, the town council urged residents to upload speeding incidents to the police’s website that could help build evidence and help the police put in interventions.
