FROME has been doing its bit for Sport Relief as the nation got involved with last weekend’s fundraising frivolities. Every two years Sport Relief, which grew from the success of Comic Relief, inspires people to perform a range of sporting endurance events to raise money for charity. Frome’s efforts contributed to the national charity raising a record figure of over £52million to help change lives across the UK and in the world’s poorest countries. On Friday, schools  in Frome held a variety of energetic extravagances. Classes at Christ Church First School took it in turns to run a course around the school field, and at the end of the morning added up their total distance. Students at North Hill House, which caters for boys with Asperger’s Syndrome, also took on the Sport Relief Mile. They were joined by a group of Jack Russell dogs who enjoyed the extra chance for walkies! On Saturday, Frome tennis player James Chaventré took on a gruelling 24-hour tennis marathon at Frome Selwood Tennis Club, raising over £1,200. On Sunday Frome Rugby Club hosted the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile at their grounds at Gypsy Lane, with people walking, jogging, or running the 1, 3, and 6 mile events.
