FROME’S Person of the Year 2017 award has been won by Frome Collegians co-founder, John Fuller.
Hundreds of votes were received in the competition, which was organised by Frome Times to find the person who has made a real contribution to the community in 2017.
John has been a key member of the Frome sporting community for more than 60 years, volunteering for the local judo, boxing, gym, swimming, basketball and cricket clubs although he is best known at Frome Collegians, where he is still club physio, a committee member and a part of the grounds team, even at the age of 87.
“I am absolutely proud to win Frome’s Person of the Year, not just for myself but for the Frome Collegians,” he said. “All of my work is done completely voluntarily but I’m not the only one; there are so many people involved in the club and in other sports in the town. This award is for all of them. It was a real surprise just to be nominated, let alone to win. I would like to thank everyone who voted for me for their kindness and thoughts for the work I have done for Frome over the years.”

Ian Drew, editor of Frome Times, presented the winner’s shield to John last week. Ian said, “Congratulations to John on winning our Person of the Year award for 2017. It’s clear that John has taken a lot of time and effort to ensure there are plenty of sporting opportunities for the young people of Frome. He has dedicated a huge chunk of his life to give back to the community and I feel he is a very worthy winner of this award.
“All this year’s nominees were worthy of the award and deserve praise for their efforts and contributions to the town. They can all feel proud to have been involved and to know they have made such a big impact on local people’s lives.”
