Start your preparations for this year’s carnival

CARNIVAL fever starts now as organisers and groups begin preparations for this year’s carnival on Saturday 21st September. 

Start the celebrations by supporting the carnival in their 100 club. The club is a form of private society lottery. Participants buy a numbered ticket – 100 tickets form the 100 club – which goes into a monthly draw. A percentage of the profit made from the club is given out as a prize every month and the remainder goes towards helping to put the carnival on. Specifically, the funding goes on hiring a band for the procession. There is an opportunity to win a cash prize every month with 1st prize being £30 and second prize £20. To enter it costs £24 for the year, equivalent to £2 per month. You can pay monthly, six-monthly or annually.

Chair of the committee, June Barnes said, “Now is the perfect time to start preparing for this year’s carnival. If there are any sports teams, businesses, families or individuals who would like to take part with a float or walking entry, then contact the carnival committee. 

“It is a special year this year as we welcome our three twinning towns who are invited to watch the carnival. We are hoping to make it the biggest and best yet, but cannot do so without your support.”
