FRESH from playing at Glastonbury, 70s rock icon Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel are set to headline the final Frome Festival Saturday with the promise of all the hits for fans old and new.
This isn’t the first time Steve and his band have played in Frome and when he was asked to come back, it was an easy decision for the singer and songwriter.
“When my promoter mentioned that there was a festival in Frome and asked if I was available, I checked first if it was at the Cheese and Grain and when he said yes, I said ‘Yes please, I’ll go back there,’” said Steve.
“I’ve played the Cheese and Grain a few times before. It’s always a good crowd there, it fills with really enthusiastic people.”
Life on the road doesn’t leave much time for sight-seeing, but Steve would like to spend more time in Frome when he gets the chance. “I’m a proper tourist, I would love to spend more time in Frome and get to know it better.
“It’s a cracking area. You can see that it is a beautiful place.”
Despite describing himself as normally quiet and reserved, fans are guaranteed that Steve will put on a show when he steps on to the stage. “I play and sing as if my life depends on it. I come alive when that spotlight hits me and I see that crowd.
“When you hear people singing along, you think to yourself ‘This is a good life’, but you must never be complacent.”
“It’s great that people get up and go out to see live music.
“I want to come to Frome and see the venue packed. The guys in the band I play with are terrific people, I love being on the road.”
With a career spanning four decades, Steve Harley has written and recorded eleven albums and is currently making his twelfth. Originally formed in 1973, Cockney Rebel had Top 20 hits with ‘Judy Teen’, ‘Mr Soft’, ‘Mr Raffles’, ‘Here Comes The Sun’ and their number one ‘Make Me Smile (Come Up & See Me)’.
